Estate Planning
Estate planning is essential, and not just for elderly or ill persons. If you have people who depend on you, you need to plan your estate. Our full estate package includes:
- Advanced Healthcare Directives to communicate your end-of-life decisions and appoint a person to make these decisions on your behalf, as well as an alternate person in case the first person is incapable or unwilling to make those decisions.
- A will to instruct your heirs how to disseminate your wealth and belongings and who will care for your minor children or your pets, and how that care should be carried out. Do NOT assume that a handshake agreement with a family member will mean that your children will be cared for, or that they will be provided for in the manner you hope.
- A trust to hold all your property and financial accounts so that they will not be subject to probate. If you do not have a trust, all your hard-earned money (including equity in your home, retirement accounts, investments, vacation properties, and other savings) will go into probate and a large chunk will be kept by the state before a dime passes to your heirs.
- A limited or durable Power of Attorney in which you appoint someone to make decisions on your behalf when you are no longer able to do so.
